استغفار

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Astaghfirullahal-ladhi la ilaha illa huwal-Hayyul-Qayyumu wa atubu ilayh.

“I seek the forgiveness of Allah, besides whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, and I turn to Him in repentance.”

Said at any time. The narration states that whoever says it is forgiven, even if he had fled from the battlefield.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya innaka antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.

“My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance; You are the Ever-Relenting, the Merciful.”

Ibn Umar reported counting the Prophet saying this a hundred times in a single sitting.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun Karimun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni.

“O Allah, You are Most Pardoning and Most Generous, and You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

Aisha asked what to say if she knew which night was Laylat al-Qadr, and this was the answer. The word "Karim" is in Tirmidhi's wording though it is often dropped when quoted.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ، دِقَّهُ وَجِلَّهُ، وَأَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ، وَعَلَانِيَتَهُ وَسِرَّهُ

Allahummaghfir li dhanbi kullah, diqqahu wa jillah, wa awwalahu wa akhirah, wa 'alaniyatahu wa sirrah.

“O Allah, forgive me all my sin: the small of it and the great, the first of it and the last, the open of it and the hidden.”

Said in prostration, the position in which the hadith says a servant is nearest to his Lord.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطِيئَتِي وَجَهْلِي وَإِسْرَافِي فِي أَمْرِي كُلِّهِ، وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي. اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطَايَايَ وَعَمْدِي وَجَهْلِي وَهَزْلِي، وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدِي. اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Rabbighfir li khati'ati wa jahli wa israfi fi amri kullih, wa ma anta a'lamu bihi minni. Allahummaghfir li khatayaya wa 'amdi wa jahli wa hazli, wa kullu dhalika 'indi. Allahummaghfir li ma qaddamtu wa ma akhkhart, wa ma asrartu wa ma a'lant, antal-Muqaddimu wa antal-Mu'akhkhir, wa anta 'ala kulli shay'in Qadir.

“My Lord, forgive me my error, my ignorance and my excess in all my affairs, and what You know better than I do. O Allah, forgive me my mistakes, what I did deliberately, out of ignorance and in jest — all of that is in me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent ahead and what I have left behind, what I concealed and what I made public. You are the One who brings forward and the One who puts back, and You have power over all things.”

Reported by Abu Musa al-Ash'ari as a supplication of the Prophet, covering deliberate and unintentional wrongdoing alike.

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa ant, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk.

“Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.”

Said before rising from a gathering. The narration says it wipes out whatever idle talk took place there.
