“O Allah, put distance between me and my sins as You have put distance between the east and the west. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, wash away my sins with water, snow and hail.”
Said silently after the opening takbir and before the recitation. Abu Hurayrah asked the Prophet what he said during that pause, and this was the answer.

“O Allah, send Your grace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent it upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”

“O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge, and I seek ability by Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You are able and I am not; You know and I do not; You are the Knower of all that is hidden. O Allah, if You know this matter to be good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless me in it. And if You know this matter to be bad for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, then make me content with it.”
Said after praying two voluntary rak'ahs when deciding on a matter. At the point marked "this matter" the person names the specific thing they intend.
