Zakat Calculator

Work out an estimate of the zakat due on your wealth at the standard rate of 2.5%, against either the silver or the gold nisab threshold.

An estimate, not a fatwaThree things this calculator cannot decide for you. First, the hawl: zakat falls due only on wealth you have held for one full lunar year, so the figures you enter should be that wealth, not simply today’s balance.Read the full note

Second, the madhhabs genuinely differ on what counts — most visibly on jewellery, where the Hanafi position is that a woman’s gold and silver jewellery is zakatable, while the Shafi‘i, Maliki and Hanbali positions generally exempt jewellery kept for ordinary personal use.

Third, anything out of the ordinary — a mortgage, a pension, shares, a business with debtors, agricultural produce or livestock — has its own rules that a flat percentage cannot capture.

Treat the figure below as a starting point, and take anything unusual to a qualified scholar or your local mosque.

Today’s metal prices

This site does not fetch live metal prices. No price feed is configured here, and a stale or invented rate would quietly give you the wrong nisab. Look up today’s gold and silver price per gram in your own currency and enter them below.

Enter every figure on this page in the same currency. The result is in that currency.

Nisab standard

Silver is the default here. Silver is far cheaper than gold, so 612.36 g of silver is a much lower threshold than 87.48 g of gold — which means more people qualify to pay. Most scholars recommend the silver standard for exactly that reason: it is the choice that benefits the poor. Selecting gold raises the threshold and will exempt some people who would owe zakat on the silver standard.

How the figure is worked out

Cash, bank balances, the value of your gold and silver, business inventory at its resale value and money you expect to be repaid are added together; short-term debts that are due are subtracted. If what remains reaches the nisab threshold, zakat is 2.5% of it. Nothing you type leaves your browser — no server is involved in this calculation.
